More butterflies

Saturday 7th July

Once again very hot, so only a short walk, down the Cloisters and Pirates wood, this view below is from the edge of the wood, corn looking quire ripe.

My usual place for butterflies near to Captain's Pool, very pleased to spot this Brown Argus butterfly, not the easiest of spots as they are quite small.

Hope for a rest before watching England beat Sweden 2-0 in the world cup, although they haven't yet been up against a real quality team I now think they have a good chance, come on England.

Met up with Jason later on down Stonechats Lane to look for the purple hairstreaks and we were not let down, now I need to try and get a photo which is not easy as they don't settle very often.

Sunday July 8th

Yet another hot one with no let up forecast for at least the next week. 

I braved an hour's walk before lunch, yes once again my usual short walk, spotted 3 purple hairstreaks along the Grey Lady's Cloisters.

This Brown Hawker was resting amongst the ferns, I was very lucky to spot it, but couldn't get a real good quality image.

Monday 9th July

A good walk this morning, up by the pool and then along the Cloisters, up the carrot field and down to Stonechat's Lane, a walk along there and then retraced my steps and ended up down by the three pools, which was amazingly quiet.

Wednesday July 4th

Popped out with my mate to see how his fox was getting on with the treatment, just a little around the tail now, should be back to normal soon, also some fur missing from top of the head, but think he's been involved in a fight, nothing serious though.

Particularly like this shot in the evening sun.

Took this one at Hurcott on the school run, don't like the look of that green.

Had a wander round Stone Pool to see if there were any snakes about, no luck on that though.

I had a walk up Heath Lane to check out the hedgerow but not much apart from bees, I met a guy part way along, ha came over and asked me if my camera was a digital one, hmm I thought, then he asked if I still need to put film in it, No, I said, that's why it's called digital, he then asked me how the pictures come about, blimey I thought this guy is getting to be hard work, so I politely said I need to move on.
I did note he was wearing sandals, enough said.

Friday July 6th

The weather is still mighty hot, problem with that is that a lot of wild flowers are now dying off, which isn't much good for the wildlife, hoping for a couple of days rain soon, but not looking likely.
Breakfast and off over the fields, firstly down by Pirates Wood, saw one marbled white and lots of other butterflies, but mostly common, then along the Cloisters, similar sight most flowers looking in a poor state, so off up the carrot field, saw a few damselflies, watched a brown hawker dragonfly for ages, but he wouldn't settle for me, along the hedgerow it was much quieter than usual.
Up the top near the muck heaps I did see a couple of yellowhammers.
Down to my favourite patch and again very quiet, popped along to the dead man's allotment which was quite busy with butterflies, saw 3 marbled white flying low but not settling.

Tuesday Morning

Had a lovely walkabout before it got too hot, down past Devil's Wood and the Grey Lady's Cloisters, up along side the carrot field and down to Stonechat's Lane, very windy and difficult to get close up images, but managed some decent shots, only one not happy with is the Holly Blue by the time it had stopped blowing the butterfly had flew off.

Possibly saw a hummingbird hawk moth, but by time I had got close enough it flew off over the hedgerow!

This is my first ever sighting of a marbled white on the patch.

Sunday July 1st 2018

Arrived back home yesterday, had to go out for a walkabout, walked alongside Devil's Wood and up the carrot field and down to Stonechat's Lane, was mighty warm though and to be honest didn't stay out too long.

Still very annoying to see so much dog mess around!

Monday July 2nd

Same walk as yesterday, lots of common butterflies etc around and then popped down to the three Pools, well 2 pools as the third one is as good as dried up at the moment.

Saw a brimstone moth and couple of brown hawker dragonflies but no photos apart from these below.
