Late start this morning as I had to drop the car in for service, came home on the bus and used my bus pass, which is the first time in ages.
Contrary to all the bad reports Diamond buses get round Kidderminster the bus was on time, the driver was courteous, the bus was warm and it didn't break down.
On arriving back as Spennells I saw three buzzards flying over the Captain's Pool area, of course they had disappeared by the time I went out.
Noticing more and more signs now of nest building, Spring should be here soon now hopefully.
A walk along the Cloisters and it was quiet, few small birds were about, hadn't got a lot of time so popped up carrot field and down to Stonechat's Lane, looks like the stonechats have finally gone, was hoping to see the green woodpecker, you can just see his head in this one.
Plenty of magpies and pigeons about in the pastures.
Loads of redwings about in the pasture field next to Heath Lane.
Shooting into the light here but the dunnock was singing his heart out.
Monday 5th March
Had a wander around Springfield Park with Brett, also quiet, saw wren, nuthatch, robins, greater spotted woodpecker and obviously loads of ducks on the pool.
Here's the woody poking his head out of his hole.
Having a look
On his way in
Poor shot of the treecreeper
After lunch a visit to Edna's Tomb, couple nice portrait shots, but with the light being poor didn't get any decent flight shots.
My best shot to date of the wren, not easy to get shots of these little birds, they are so quick.
Pleasing shot of the robin.
While the light was okay for portraits it was hopeless for flight shots, with small birds I like to have a minimum shutter speed of 1/2500
So another little walkabout and met up with Jason, this guy is amazing, I couldn't hear a thing but he somehow heard a yellowhammer in the distance, after a scan with his bins he quickly located it and then set up his scope, amazing to see this bird through his scope even though it was quite a way off, thanks Jason.
