Haven't had much chance to get out this week apart from a few minutes here and there, but managed a couple of good walks this weekend, first walk was yesterday 02.03.18, a walk by Captain's and then along the Grey Lady's Cloisters, the slime pool was frozen over and covered in snow in places, the photo is of Stone Pool which is mainly a fishing pool and run by the KDAA. Down to Stonechat's Lane and a nose around here and there, but it was windy and very cold. Looks like the Stonechat's have finally flew off to higher ground to mate. Distinct sounds of the GS Woodpecker drumming in a few places, Fieldfare and redwings were in strong numbers as usual, saw one flock of at least 40 of fieldfare.
Today's walk was quite similar apart from this time I walked up to Stone Church, was hoping to get a good shot in the snow, but the light was very dull, never mind I can't have everything. GS Woodpeckers, I heard them in three different places. Again fieldfare and redwings were around in strong numbers. A couple of buzzards were flying near the dead man's allotment.
One thing I noticed over the past few days is the lack of twitchers, perhaps too cold.
This one of Hurcott was on the school run to fetch the eldest grand-daughter, always drive past Hurcott as you never know what the pool is going to look like.
This one was looking down from Edna's Tomb, a brisk breeze was blowing the snow into drifts.
A bit of fun here with my crystal ball, can get some really nice effects at times.
This one from the fields, was a bit dull so brightened it up a little.
This one is from the Stone end of Stonechat's Lane, again a dull day so a touch up with Affinity Photo, I used to swear by Photoshop, but no more as I have switched.
Have to say by the time I made it to Stone Church my legs were really aching, not a bad walk at most of the time but heavy walking in the snow.
Snow storms a brewing and I made it home just in time to beat the snow, this one from a couple of days ago.
Fieldfare sheltering, love these birds and so many of them around Spennells at the moment, as I write this there are 12 of them in the cherry tree in my back garden.
Only had one go at flight shots this week, getting too cold to just stand there.
Blackbird enjoying the snow yesterday, taken from my new hide.
First shot from this morning, not a good sight to spur me on for a good walk.
Next three are from my new hide, could have some good possibilities from here, the jays have been hanging around but need some more training.
Another from a few days ago.
Probably my best one of the week, birds now starting to defend their territories.
