Tuesday 5th March
An early walkabout revealed not much yet again, probably due to lots of birds pairing up and nest building, saw a couple of magpies carrying twigs that were enormous.
Just the usuals on Captains, saw a heron fly away from the 3 pools area, also saw a treecreeper and a couple of nuthatches, wrens, robins and blackbirds looked to be everywhere.
A number of starlings were outside my house collecting twigs.
Back for breakfast and more work in the garden and then back out just before lunch, only time really for a quick walk around Captain's Pool, this was pretty quiet as there were people working at the pool, the grebes were still there and just before I left I saw an amazing fight between a couple of moorhens, see pics below.
Popped back out after lunch, the reserves were very quiet, up the carrot field was the same but there were lots of Chaffinch and Goldfinches nearby to Pirates Wood.
So back for another walk around Captain's, again very quiet, the male GC Grebe still calling out trying to attract the female but with no joy.
A wren did come quite near and was messing on a mossy stump and didn't seem bothered by my presence, a few more gulls were present today and that was about it for the day as the rain came down.
Following 5 photos show a manic fight between 2 moorhens with another looking on, at the end of the fight I only saw 2 swim away, got a nasty feeling that one died.

Monday 4th March
Very quick walk to the pool before breakfast, it was just the same as yesterday.
Back home and some work in the garden due to the high winds from yesterday.
Managed to get out later but only walked as far as the pool, the male Great Crested Grebe was still trying to get close to the female, but so far no luck.
A few Jays were active in Pirates Wood.
Met up with Jason K by Captain's, always good to have a chat with an expert.
Got a shot of a female Gooseander flying away, amazingly myself or Jason didn't see it on the pool.
