Catherton Common

Wednesday April 3rd

Had no internet for several days but thankfully now back on line.

Also been busy so only a few short walkabouts over the past few days, only been seeing the usual, still presuming a lot of birds are nesting or building nests as I'm not seeing much activity at the moment.
Few pics below from the past couple of days.

Saturday 30th March

Bit misty and cool to start the day, an early walk around the reserves, but was very quiet, a walk around Captain's was no different, but did hear the nuthatches singing, could see the one Grebe close to where they are nesting, the other was fishing in the middle of the pool.

Friday 29th March 2019

Nice start to the day, a quick walk round the pool revealed just the usuals.
As it was looking good we took a drive to Catherton Common which is at the foot of the Clee Hills and what a glorious day it turned out to be.
On arrival we had a walkabout and first of all we spotted a couple of skylarks larking about in the blue sky, then along cam a buzzard quickly followed by a low flying Red Kite, only a few poor record shots as I only took a small camera, next time I will be armed with the big boy.
Late on in the morning we spotted 5 Red Kites circling high above us, also saw quite a few Meadow Pipits, a couple of stonechats and a few more buzzards, seems the raptors like this area.
Then a walk down the common heading toward Titterstone Hill in the hope of seeing or hearing a Curlew, but no luck, did also spot a few Mistle Thrushes.
After lunch we went up to Clee Hill, again lots of Buzzards and Red Kites around, also a few Stonechats and Dunnocks.
During the day we saw several butterflies and loads of bees and no end of Pheasants.
Late afternoon I had another walk around Captain's Pool, still the usuals but I did spot a grass snake in exactly the same place as I did on thursday, I do now want a pic of it swimming towards me so watch this space.

Looking over Catherton Common

Taken with 50mm lens, so not far from the radar station.
