Very cold first thing, a walk around the reserves and then the pool. amazed to see no one fishing especially as it is the weekend. Didn't see a lot, no surprise there!
Was better late morning/early afternoon, saw treecreeper and that was about it, on the pool the terrapin came out to sun himself.
Three GC Grebes still, the two were ganging up on the single one, but the single was still there when I left for home, just before I left the grebes were doing their dance and then started collecting sticks for the nest.
Occasionally there was a breeze on the pool buy most of the time it was very still.
Terrapin
One GC Grebe running for it's life
GC Grebe getting ready to attack
Mallard in full voice
Mallard drying off
Two Mallards in a short fight
Gull overhead
View of the pool around 14.30.
Friday 5th April
Dull day but dry, nice to see a Mandarin on the pool again, but it flew off within minutes of me taking a couple of shots, I returned after lunch and it was back again, 5 minutes later it flew off again.
Three Great Crested Grebes today, the one stayed in the margins for ages and when it did eventually come out the other two started chasing it with not a lot of luck.
Around the reserves it was still very quiet, am seeing lots of bees though.
Mandarin
Mandarin just taking off
As above
The third GC Grebe quite content to stay hidden for a while.

And what a miserable day, very cold, windy, rain, sleet and some snow, so I got on a nice thin tee shirt and my shorts and off I went for my walk, blimey it was cold, ha ha and then I woke up!
No way am I going out in this weather!
No way am I going out in this weather!
So I have been reading my book and this is a book I heartily recommend to any birding enthusiast.
A SEASON OF BIRDS- A NORFOLK DIARY - 1911
I picked this second hand copy (1980) up from the bookshop at Blickling Hall.
Basically it's about Jim Vincent who was the game keeper at Blickling, this is a diary of what he recorded in 1911 and what a fascinating read it is, also includes many sketches of birds
10 out of 10 from me and wish I could find more similar old books.
