Greylag Geese and lots and lots of insects

Monday May 6th (Bank Holiday)

Cold and breezy, don't like this weather at this time of the year.
Bits of blue sky now and then, not much around early on, pool was very quiet as usual.
Still lots of nesting going on at the moment, hopefully wildlife will be more interesting soon.

Captain's Pool

Quite dull all day so decided to pop out after lunch to see how many insects I could find and to be honest I saw a lot more than I was expecting to considering the weather.
The pic below shows the area where all but the last insect was taken, guessing approx 200 metres along this small stretch.

Sunday May 5th

Had a walk around the reserves today, quite chilly, didn't spot many birds, but there were a few insects about, so for walkabout No 2 I took the Canon bridge camera.

The more I look for hoverflies the more I like what I see, hopefully spot a lot more this summer.

For my insect photos I use a Canon SX50HS and a Raynox 250 macro attachment.

Also a big thank you for the ID's on the hoverflys from the facebook group UK Hoverflies

Saturday May 4th

Lovely bright morning, sun shining but how cold was this, it was bitter out there!

Not much about, again!
Captain's again very quiet, apart from the heron who stood for ages on the log at the rear of the island, I stayed for a hour and a half and he didn't catch on fish, he certainly has some patience, he flew away and so did I, needed to get home to get warm.

Friday May 3rd

Dull all day, bit cooler and some rain at times, basically a crap day.
Only walked round the pool today and apart from a pair of Tufted Ducks taking off it was a very quiet day.

Thursday May 2nd

Bright start and mild, but soon turned dull and colder, walk around the reserves, but still very quiet, Captain's was the same, wren, robin and Jays were around, on the pool just the usuals.

Lovely end to the day

Not the best quality but this was the full length of the pool away from me, but you can see the size of the fish he caught, took him ages to swallow it, he kept smacking it on the staging to kill it.

Wednesday May 1st

Bright start, mildish day but a bit duller than I would like.
Greylag geese were on the pool when I arrived but flew off withing a few minutes, saw Moorhens with a chick, also ssa a bird I hadn't seen before, wish I had got a photo.

Sunday April 28th

Cold but dry start to the day also still quite breezy for most of the day, brightened up a little after lunch.
Couple Greylag Geese popped in, two herons still about, also two mallards with their young, will be interesting to see how many survive.
