Insects and swallows

Wednesday July 3rd
Woke up to a very warm sunny start, had a brief walkabout and then decided to go somewhere different so popped over to Wolverley, a walk around the churchyard and then the canal, found a few hoverflies but nothing astounding.

Tuesday July 2nd

Warm and breezy day, few walkabouts, didn't spot the swallows today and only saw one Great Crested Grebe on the pool.
Few insects about, mainly Marmalade hoverflies, they are everywhere at the moment, millions of them.
Lots of butterflies and damselflies near Pirates, but very quiet around Stone Pool, yet to see a marbled white in the area.

The view from Pirates wood this afternoon.

Monday July 1st 2019

Warmish start to the first day of July, had nice walkabout, am seeing lots of Mistle thrushes about, many many insects about.
Great to see both the Great Crested Grebes on the pool, one of them sat on the nest while the other was fishing, Heron was perched in a tree by the dam wall.

Quite pleased with the hoverflies today, millions of Marmalades about but the Helophilus trivittatus was my highlight of the day and brings my total of different varieties for Spennells now to 34.

And another walkabout this afternoon, this first pic shows where I saw the swallows, about 20 of them being very active, swooping low over the corn.
