Grebe and Gooseanders

Tuesday 19th Feb
Bright start but didn't last long, popped up the pool early on, Great Crested Grebe still there and also 2 Gooseanders, but the Gooseanders disappeared not long after I saw them.
Popped back out late morning.
Nice to see some blossom showing in the reserves, did hear something grunting in the reserve by the pool, I could see the undergrowth moving but couldn't spot what was making the noise.
Did finally spot the GS Woodpecker, but he soon flew off.
The farmer was spreading muck over the carrot field, so looks like the weedy field will no longer be there, shame as it's been a haven for several flocks of birds.
5 Buzzards down by Pirates Wood and fairly active as well.
Sparrowhawk down the bottom end of the carrot field by Stanklyn Lane, few Mistle thrushes about but not a great deal else to speak of, no sign of the Stonechat.
Couple of Pied Wagtails at Edna's Grave, kept dropping down to where the muck heaps were.
Saw 2 nuthatches together in a tree close to home.
