Drayton Pool

Monday 11th March 2019

Had an early walk around Captain's Pool, 2 Gooseanders present but could only see One Great Crested Grebe.

After brekky I popped over to Drayton near Belbroughton, hadn't been round this pool for many many years, I have been tipped off that a pair of Dipper's have nested close to the stream for the past four years.
First bird I spotted was a Grey Wagtail, also two swans dropped in just after I arrived, did take some photos but not very good, will be visiting again though.
There is a public footpath along the dam wall and also up the left side of the pool, which I presume leads to Belbroughton, will see if I can do the walk on a nicer day.

After lunch I had a walkabout, first down by the three pools, spotted a red kite overhead near to Amada.
Nothing unusual though on my walk, a walk down to Stanklyn revealed that it was still very quiet and the same scenario up Heath Lane.
Then spent a couple of hours at Captain's Pool/Pirates Wood, sadly still only one Great Crested Grebe in view, 2 Gooseanders still there and were fishing by the island, the cormorant flew into the tree on the island where he sat and was still there when I left.
Treecreepers and nuthatches were present along with lots of other small birds.
